The village
Zahara is small, but you won't get bored. Every corner has something to discover — on foot, by kayak, or simply sitting on a terrace with castle views.
The must-do visit. A 15th-century Arab tower 5 minutes on foot from La Jarana. 360° views of the reservoir, the mountains and the white village. Free entry. Essential at sunset.
The Zahara-El Gastor reservoir has turquoise waters unlike anywhere else in Andalusia. You can rent kayaks or paddle boards right on the shore. An especially beautiful experience at sunrise or sunset.
One of the most breathtaking routes in Andalusia. A 400-metre-deep canyon home to griffon vultures. Requires a prior permit from the Grazalema Natural Park — we recommend booking in advance.
The Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park offers routes for every level, from easy walks by the reservoir to treks through forests of Spanish fir — Spain's oldest tree species. In spring the mountains are especially spectacular.
